Leadwork (flashing) can deteriorate over time. It is one of the most common problems and often the biggest cause of roof leaks, especially around your chimney.
Flashing refers to thin pieces of weather resistant material put in place to prevent the passage of water into a structure from a joint or as part of a weather resistant barrier system. In most new and recent buildings, flashing is intended to decrease water penetration, particularly in areas such as chimneys, vent pipes, walls, windows and door openings. Correctly installed lead that is in good repair will prevent indoor mould problems. Metal flashing materials include lead, aluminium, copper, stainless steel, zinc alloy, and other materials.
